Patron Saint Troparion
Saint John Orthodox Church

The memory of the righteous is celebrated with songs of praise, but the Lord's testimony is sufficient for thee, O Forerunner. Thou wast shown indeed to be the most honorable of the prophets, for in the waters thou didst baptize him who had been proclaimed. After suffering in behalf of the truth, thou didst proclaim even to those in Hades the God who appeared in the flesh, who takes away the sin of the world and grants us the Great Mercy.

Children's Club

St. John Children's Club was organized to provide our young children, ages 5-12 years, with the opportunity to share in Christian fellowship and fun. This Pre-Teen group participates in the Life of the Church on many levels during the year, in-church and out-of-church as well. Due to the young age of its members, at each gathering the meetings are run by the Officers.

In the Orthodox Church, Children who are Baptized and Chrismated are Full Members of the Church, deserving by virtue of the Sacraments to receive Holy Communion. This is not so in other communions! Thus, due to this aspect of the importance of children in the church, an aspect recognized by the Lord Himself, such as when He called all the Children to come to Him to bless them, we cannot undermine the importance and participation of children in the life of the Church.

To this end, St. John Children's Club serves these needs, by planning parties and functions coterminous with the liturgical calendar of the church, such as Easter Egg Hunts around the time of Pascha, and Christmas Plays around the time of the Feast of the Nativity of our Lord. The Officers of the Children's Club, typically, are parents of past, present, or future members in the Children's Club! Thus, their concern for the safety and well-being of the children go hand in hand with their zeal to educate them, entertain them, and have them participate in the Divine Liturgy. The formative years in cognition and communication are these sensitive young years, and St. John Orthodox Church, through the activities and functions of the Children's Club, incorporates this growth aspect by making it pleasant and fun for these children to accept and grow in the faith.
